School will soon be out for the summer. Do you know where your children will be? In addition to trips to the beach and lazy days at the pool (or in front of a TV or PC screen!), give them the opportunity to do something different and enriching this summer.

Many Central Florida organizations offer summer camps or art programs that inspire and educate children of all ages—and they’re fun. They give kids a chance to express themselves in different ways. And the self-discovery, self-confidence that the kids learn can last a lifetime.

Aiguille Rock Climbing Center 2009 Summer Climbing & Challenge Camp

Aiguille Summer Climbing & Challenge Camp for boys and girls ages 6 and up is a great way to introduce your child to the fun sport of rock climbing. The group nature of the camp provides a fun, structured environment for campers of all fitness abilities to enjoy as they grow and learn. Full and half-day programs are available; full days are recommended to maximize the benefits from each activity. Camp begins Monday, June 6th. Space is limited, so enroll early.

The camp also emphasizes the connection between rock climbing and character growth. The Climbing for Character curriculum helps campers make connections between activities and core character traits. In a fun, supportive atmosphere, campers first learn all the fundamentals of climbing, from appropriate warm-up and safety to belay procedures and communication. Then each day of camp offers structured climbing, team-building exercises and physical and mental challenge activities. A Friday pizza party is held for all campers in attendance.

Campers who complete at least 3 days receive a Certificate of Completion, an Aiguille Summer Camp group photo, and discount coupons toward membership, Pro Shop equipment and more.

Cheda and DragonaBrown's New Owners: Dragana Dosen and Cheda Vragovic
After ending their athletic carriers as Serbian National champions and national team members (Dosen in gymnastics, and Vragovic in Karate), Vragovic and Dosen graduated with Master's Degrees from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia (Dept. of Physical Education) before moving to the U.S. After running a gymnastics club in Nashua, New Hampshire for 14 years, and owning their own multi-disciplinary school in Minnesota, Dragana and Cheda sold their thriving business and moved to Florida in December, 2010.

Brown's Gym All Sports Summer Camp

June 1–August 19

Brown's Gym offers 12 weeks of full-day programs for kids age 4 to 14. The camps are filled with activities including gymnastics, dance, karate, cheer and soccer (all with lessons), daily cooperative gym games, arts and crafts, plus optional sign-ups for  weekly field trips for swimming, skating, bowling, golfing, etc.

In addition, parents can enroll their children for tutoring in math, reading and Spanish.

Children can attend any of the camps for 1 to 5 days, 8:30am-5:30pm.
Early drop-off and late pick-up are available.

Casselberry Art House

If you have a child that is 6 to 12 and enjoys drawing and painting, you know the joy that comes from it, seeing them start with a blank piece of paper and watching them create something using their imagination. That's what this year's Summer Art Academy is all about: letting them express themselves, tap into their own world, and show what's on their minds.

This year's 9-week camp will be a different adventure each weekly session, from sculpting to clay-building to perspective drawing and watercolors, taught by some of the finest art educators from Seminole County Schools. Combining art education and art creation is a sure way to boost children's knowledge, provide a great outlet, and let them create their own one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Cost includes all materials. Please bring a snack and a drink for the midday break. Early registration is recommended.

Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens

A whole new world of adventure awaits kids this summer at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Exciting programs include half-day and full-day camps for children ages 6-12, and the Cub Club pre-school series for ages 2-5. T-shirt and snack included. Crealdé School of Art:

Central Florida's locally grown ArtCamp at Crealdé takes place June 13th to August 4th. It offers an overview of the fundamentals of art as each camper learns from professional artists in working studios. Camps are offered for ages 4 to 17 in one- or two-week sessions. Each day includes a class in Ceramics, Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Photography and Sculpture. Tuition includes all materials. (Note: Prices are Members/Non-members.)

Showcasing the best of summer, the ArtCamp Exhibition features one artwork from each camper, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 20, 5:00-7:00pm in the Showalter Hughes Community Gallery. Crealdé School of Art is a non-profit organization established in 1975, offering classes for adults or children year-round.

Session 1 (ages 4 to 7) June 13-17, 9:00am-11:45am. $150/$170
One week of half-days filled with art exploration into a variety of media—sculpture, clay art, painting, and drawing—during three classes a day in with a 10-minute break between classes.

This program lets students concentrate on just one medium for one week. Choose from Painting & Drawing, Traditional Film or Digital Photography, Wheelthrowing or Handbuilding with Clay. The program is based on the nationally recognized Advanced Placement Studio Art Program.

Orange County Regional History Center

Orange County Regional History Center summer camps offer children grades K-8 an opportunity to explore their creativity, expand their imaginations, and enhance their knowledge of the world around them. Children can write in hieroglyphs, create an invention, learn about the science of space flight, or see what life was like as a pioneer or cowboy. Each week of camp incorporates hands-on activities and special guests. Camps run from June 13th through August 12th.

Learn the history of American inventions, recreate exciting experiments, and create an in­vention of your own. Grades K-5.

Orlando Magic Summer Basketball Camps

Magic Basketball Camps are designed to improve the skill level of any young basketball player while providing all the fun and excitement of an NBA team. Presented by United Healthcare, these camps feature expert instruction from the area's best coaches, and include a premium giveaway package for every participant.

This summer, the Magic will offer 20 sessions across Central Florida, including many in and around Seminole County, such as the RDV Sportsplex, Lake Mary Prep, Willow Creek Church (Winter Springs), and the Orlando Magic Goldenrod Recreation Center (Winter Park). In addition to the Magic's traditional day camps, also available are an Overnight Camp, a "Mini" Camp (ages 4–8), an All Girls Camp and, for the first time, the J.J. Summer Camp and Academy Program

Looking for something fun and excited for the kids this summer? Check out the Orlando Science Center's Summer Camps. They range in topic and are specifically designed for each age bracket. What a great way for your children to meet new friends, explore new ideas, and create lasting memories. Topics range from severe weather to space to crime scene investigation. The camps are designed with parents in mind, and allow for early drop-off and late pick-up. A new program this summer is the Junior Academy for grades 5 and 6 with more in-depth learning and a special field trip option.

Camps are one week long and vary depending on the topic. Children in grades K-4 have a half-day or full-day option. The half-day camp is 9:00am-noon or 1:00pm-4:00pm. The full-day option is 9:00am-4:00pm. The half-day program is perfect for young children looking to have the camp experience yet not ready to be left all day. The full-day camp is the perfect way to ease children into the school routine. Our camps provide a social environment where children can learn through cooperative play, critical thinking, and exploration.

For 5th and 6th graders, summer camp will reignite their love of learning with hands-on experiences. These summer camps can bridge the gap between textbook and real-world experiences, letting students re-connect with their math and science skills. Each camp has a field trip option that allows the students to see their learning come to life.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF announces its Summer Camp beginning June 13th. Orlando Shakes offers full-day and half-day options for grades pre-K through graduating high school seniors. Creative Arts camps include Fairy Tales & Merry Music; Shakespeare Smackdown; and Lights, Camera, Action! Camps take place at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, Loch Haven Park, Orlando.

Orlando Shakes is dedicated to creating innovative educational experiences that build critical life skills and encourage creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, concentration, public speaking, and a strong work ethic. Professional acting instructors guide the exploration and appreciation of the arts, with social and academic skills integrated into the process.

Summer camps run through mid-August. Costs range from $150-$375. Scholarships available. Each registered camper receives one free ticket to Orlando Shakespeare Theater's production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Dressing Up & Making Music! Pre-K–Grade 2. June 13-17, 9:00am– noon. $175. Campers get hands-on experience with musical instruments, costumes, and act out their own stories through creative play.

Knights & Maidens Grades 6–8. July 18–-22, 9:00am–5:00pm. $250. After jousts, join other nobles to move and speak like an Elizabethan.

Lights, Camera, Action! Grades 9–12. July 25–29; 9:00am–5:00pm. $300. Students make their own action movie combining stage combat, acting and video.

The Pop Shop

If your child dreams of a career performing or just loves to have fun singing and dancing, this camp is for them. The Pop Shop is a performing arts school providing professional singing, acting. and dance performance instruction for children and young adults. The Pop Shop environment features positive music and encouragement to promote strong self-esteem, freedom of artistic expression, and career preparation. Space is limited, and registration for summer classes has begun.

June 6-10 Young Actors Institute $475 ($25 registration). This intensive session includes training in improv, scene study and character development. Original scripts in monologues, scenes and commercials are professionally filmed and edited for screen tests and talent Web sites. A talent showcase is presented at the end of the week.
 
June 13-17 Pop Rock $200 ($25 registration). Learn to perform like your favorite contemporary artists in rock and pop-style music. Record a demo and perform on stage with a band. Students work on songs that are familiar from the radio, shoot a Pop/Rock photo shoot complete with professional hair/make-up and photographer.
 
June 20-24 Triple Threat $200 ($25 registration). The summer version of our professional touring group. Train in singing, dancing and acting. Learn on-camera TV acting, dance moves to shows like So You Think You Can Dance, and vocal styles from High School Musical and Glee. Shoot a photo for a headshot, and record a demo.
 
June 27-Jul 8 Dance Explosion
2-week camp $360 ($25 registration). This intensive camp is an introduction to The Pop Shop style of dancing for all levels of dance. Learn contemporary hip-hop and break-dancing moves. Train in original choreography to shoot a music video at week's end. Our teachers have appeared on this year's America's Got Talent and promos for So You Think You Can Dance, and toured with Aaron Carter and the international tour of Stomp. (Closed July 4th.)

A professional hair and make-up artist will show you how to look like a star. Sweetwater Day Camp

Sweetwater Summer Day Camp is for children from age 3 years through entering 6th grade. The camp runs from June 11th-August 10th with a different and exciting theme each week. The program is designed to offer a rich variety of discovery experiences with fun as the central theme. This camp creates an environment that enables children to discover their interests and develop their special gifts and talents.

The SSDC staff is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of your children while providing a fun filled, positive environment. The camp's outstanding creative and caring staff's main priority for the children is safety and fun, and includes professional educators in athletics, computer, dance, music, art, theater, aquatics and early childhood education. All staff members are carefully screened, including a required criminal background check, are CPR-certified, and have completed Safe Guarding God's Children.

Daily activities including art, music, science explorations, canoe and pool are conducted in an air-conditioned facility as well as on the grounds of the tree-shaded 10-acre campus on beautiful Lake Brantley.
