Two Summer Shows at the Mennello
The Mennello Museum of American Art, located in Loch Haven Park, houses a diverse collection of American paintings and sculptures. At the heart of the museum's showcase is an outstanding permanent collection of paintings by Earl Cunningham (1893-1977), donated by Marilyn and Michael Mennello of Winter Park, and currently owned by the City of Orlando. This summer, The Mennello is mounting two shows: Chip Gillespie's Horses, and John Grabach and Henry Gasser: Teacher and Student.
Chip Gillespie's Horses
June 1-September 1
The art of the horse is wonderfully rendered by equine portrait artist Chip Gillespie. A retired art instructor and NASA engineer, Gillespie creates large-scale illustrations in colored pencil on textured paper—stunning and charming, and full of detail and whimsy.
John Grabach and Henry Gasser:
Teacher and Student
June 1-September 1
This exhibit will explore the relationship of how two artists deriving from the New York School captured the world around them as they saw it. Glorifying the harsh realities of everyday life, gritty urban street scenes and common portrayals of American coastal life, this collection demonstrates a sense of place and feeling that most can identify with.
Enriching the Central Florida community through special exhibitions, publications, and programs that celebrate outstanding traditional and contemporary American artists has been an integral part of the museum's mission since its opening in 1998.
