’Tis the Season . . . for Music
The Orlando Philharmonic celebrates the holidays with Home for the Holidays, an annual concert tradition, on Saturday, November 24, at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. Filled with all the glorious sounds of the season, the concert features the Orlando Philharmonic under the direction of maestro Andrew Lane. Also on the program are the Holiday Singers and tenor David Chernault with the Next Generation Kids.
Bring the family and celebrate this rich tradition of holiday classics like “Sleigh Ride,” “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “White Christmas,” and “A Visit from St. Nicholas” narrated by David Chernault. Enjoy a pre-concert holiday activity for children, sponsored by the Orlando Sentinel, at the 2:00 pm per- formance. Please bring canned or non-perishable food items to help the Phil replenish the pantries of Central Florida’s Second Harvest Food Bank.
Coming up: The next concert in the 2007-08 season is Radio Days, on Saturday, January 19th, at 2:00 and 8:00 pm. The concert, which features Andrew Lane and the exciting vocal group Five by Design, honors America’s “greatest generation.” This musical retrospective from the golden age of radio—when broadcasts of big bands turned living rooms into “make-believe ballrooms”—recreates a poignant time in American life during World War II with music that’s deeply woven into America’s cultural fabric.
Both concerts will be performed at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. Tickets: $13-$62. For information or tickets: Philharmonic Box Office, 407.770.0071 or OrlandoPhil.org. Box Office hours: Monday through Friday, 10:00 am-5:00 pm.
